University Links

Wakefield’s positioning is close to 7 large universities and is home to an advanced skills and Innovation centre, part of Wakefield College.

Wakefield College University Centre

Offers support with higher education courses and Incubation space for business.

The new University Centre aims to transform higher-level skills training in the District. Bringing modern teaching and learning facilities for our students, it will also become a focal point for innovation and entrepreneurship, allowing enterprising students and local start-up businesses to bring their business ideas to life.

We have close links with Leeds Beckett University and Wakefield College who can support local businesses.

A way in which we do this is through knowledge transfer partnerships (KTP).

A KTP provides opportunities for a business to:

  • Improve competitiveness
  • Boost productivity
  • Enhance performance
  • Increase profitability

Each project is individually designed to transfer the academic knowledge and expertise of the University into a new business initiative or challenge.

We work with Leeds Beckett University to help raise awareness of KTP’s and encourage applications.

The projects last from 12 months to three years and a highly skilled graduate is recruited by the University and placed within the business to deliver the project.
The work is supported by intensive input from a senior academic who will be an expert in their field and who will work on the KTP for an average of half a day each week throughout the project.

Wider advantages across a business include creating and embedding a culture of innovation; the transfer of new knowledge and skills across the workforce; and enhancing the reputation of the organisation through innovation in the business sector.
