Keeping The Wakefield District Looking Green and Glorious This Spring

23 April 2024

The Wakefield District is blessed with an abundance of green spaces and glorious countryside.

The Council has a carefully prepared calendar of season maintenance and landscaping projects, designed to keep the district looking its best all year round.

In many areas extremely intricate eco-systems have formed and continue to support all manner of plant life and wildlife - from rare wetland birds to the common field mouse.

The Council continues to make protecting the environment a priority and all the work we carry out is sensitively planned to allow biodiversity to flourish.

At this time of year, temperatures begin to rise, and rain continues to fall. As nature’s peak growing season gets underway, we can expect to see the usual surge in grass and weed growth.

Weather permitting, we will shortly be carrying out some very selective grass cutting in areas that are not waterlogged. Given the wet winter, much of the ground is still too saturated to put heavy plant machinery on.

It can sometimes look like parts of the district have been forgotten and the Council becomes inundated with calls and emails from residents, concerned that we have missed a spot.

Rest assured our team of landscapers work to protect the environment, while keeping the district looking great, and we will get to all areas in due course.

Careful consideration is given to environmental impact before any works are carried out.
