The Wakefield Masterplan and Castleford Regeneration Exhibition 2024

21 December 2023

2023 has been an exciting time for the regen team and 2024 is all set to be even more exciting as work gets underway on delivering a lot of the projects included in the Council’s Masterplan.

Regeneration doesn’t happen overnight. The first phase of regeneration involves obtaining funding, then the process of buying land and buildings gets underway. Surveys and ground checks have to be carried out, public consultations are held, designs and plans are drawn up, planning applications need to be granted, discussions with Developers get underway - to ensure the projects delivered are in the best interests of the residents and local businesses. All these important things need to be done before demolition or construction work begins, so it might not always look like things are progressing, but behind the scenes the Council is constantly working hard to keep everything on track.

2023 has seen the first phase of many of these projects complete, so 2024 is going to be a transformational year for Wakefield - with large scale projects due to begin in the city centre and in Castleford.

To keep you up to date on these key projects, and to hear more about the things that are important to you, two regeneration exhibitions are being held in January. One will be held in Wakefield city centre, outlining projects from the Wakefield City Masterplan, the other will be held in Castleford and will focus on projects being delivered through the Towns Fund programme, along with other transformational work happening in the town centre.

These free to visit exhibitions, include updates and artist impressions showing what Castleford and the city centre will look like once these projects are finished.

The council is encouraging as many residents as possible, along with local businesses, to visit the exhibitions being held.
