Going Global Message For Business Week Launch

Wakefield’s global ambition kick-started Wakefield Business Week 2016 on Monday (13 June) when more than 100 delegates joined a panel of experts to discuss the benefits of international trade and inward investment at The Kings Croft Hotel in Pontefract.
Promoting the district’s connectivity and reinforcing the tangible benefits of international trade, delegates were reminded that exporting is essential and for everyone, even smaller businesses that are and can be effective when it comes to selling overseas.
Paul Reid, Director of Reid Aviation Solutions and Chair of Wakefield First commented: “We are seeing a growing confidence within the business community. Where once we may have been apologetic and inward looking now we are assured, proud and ready to take our products, services and the Wakefield brand to a much larger audience.”
Joanne Roney OBE, commented: “We have a lofty ambition to shout about the opportunities that we have here and can grow globally. We are seeing many local businesses flourish in an overseas market; this is success that can be built upon. Working closely with key partners, we can offer support to help businesses navigate through the challenges presented by export.”
The Going Global launch event kick-started a week-long celebration of business, which is organised by Wakefield first, Wakefield Bondholders, Wakefield Council and Mid Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce.
Events that took place during business week highlighted global opportunities, job creation and growth, as well as investment in the district through a range of seminars and workshops.
