Faye Set for Purple Patch
21 August 2015
Local artist Faye Johnson, Purple Faye, is opening the doors to her new studio in Pontefract.
Purple Faye transforms ordinary cardboard and modroc into beautiful 3D acrylic paintings. Creating everything from family pets to local attractions, her unique designs are both striking and highly original.
Starting out as Purple Faye in 2012, Faye was keen to make her passion for art into a successful business. After initially hearing about the support available through Wakefield Council but thinking that it couldn’t support a new start business like hers, she received support from the Art House’s BELAY programme. After a referral from a friend she got in touch with the Wakefield Business Support Programme. With initial support from a Business Advisor, Faye took the opportunity for funding through the WBSP to attend the British Craft Trade Fair, the first trade show she had attended.
Exhibiting as a newcomer the experience of the trade show gave Faye the confidence to push forward with her business plans and open her brand new studio.
‘Without the support of Wakefield Council and the Business Support Programme I don’t think I would have got to this point. Alongside having an advisor I could call on for general advice and support, attending the trade fair was a great boost to my confidence and helped me to realise the next step would be getting a studio where I can work and then display the results.”
“I made lots of really good contacts at the show and with social media and the studio I am really looking forward to being able to display my work and get myself out there!”
The open evening will take place on Thursday 27th of August 4pm - 8pm on the 1st floor of Pearl Assurance House, 1-3 Horsefair, Pontefract, WF8 1PE. Free drinks and nibbles will be available.
The studio will be open to the public at other times where you can view the work, see new work being made, buy direct from the artist, order your very own 3D acrylic painting to be made for you (pet portraits etc can be made from photographs) you can even try the technique for yourself in workshops and with kits to take away. “An appointment won’t be necessary but will help avoid disappointment”
