New planning consent sought for former Poundworld HQ

An application has been submitted to add an additional use to the former West Yorkshire headquarters of collapsed retailer Poundworld to help market the property to new occupiers.

LMP Wakefield, supported by Savills, has submitted a change of use application to Wakefield Council for the former Poundworld House on Normanton Industrial Estate.

The 525,000 sq ft building was sold to the application after Poundworld ceased trading over the summer.

Planning permission is now being sought to use the building for general industrial (B"), alongside the existing consent for light industrial, and storage and distribution uses.

A planning statement submitted as part of the application said: "The proposal will assist in bringing this unit back in to use by offering greater flexibility over the uses permitted, both now and in the future.

"Although only a change of use application to increase the range of employment use classes permitted to operate from the site, the proposed development will still deliver a range of benefits, most significantly of a social and economic nature. The reuse of the building will deliver a range of new jobs to the district, benefiting local people, and in turn the economic prosperity of the district."
