Golden Triangle Get Boost From Wakefield Business Support Programme
Tue 20 Jan 2015
Identifying a gap in the market local entrepreneurs Daniel Crosland and Stephen Dobbins used their experience in the property industry to start Golden Triangle Property Services, the first company in the Wakefield district to offer a bespoke inventory and property inspection service to private landlord and letting agents.
Both met whilst studying at Pontefract College, and after working for letting agencies decided they could provide a personal and bespoke service to private landlords and agents that would save them time and resources and deliver a better service for them and their tenants.
Operating nationally but predominantly in the ‘Golden Triangle’ area between Leeds, York and Harrogate the inventory and inspection service they provided is increasingly in demand as agents and landlords look to manage increasing numbers of private lets by outsourcing these tasks to other businesses.
Daniel and Stephen knew that to achieve their ambitions they would need financial support as well as advice on how to move forward. The assistance that the Wakefield Business Support Programme (WBSP) provided not only gave them regular contact with their own business advisor but access to grant applications, help with their business plan, registering with HMRC and the information needed to access tax credits. The advice has meant their business had its successful launch in September and continues to grow with both partners working for Golden Triangle full time.
Speaking about the support of the Programme Stephen Dobbins said:
“The assistance which we received from Wakefield Council through the WBSP was exceptional. We had regular contact with our allocated business advisor, assisting us throughout the process of applying for Government initiatives which were available.”
On their future plans Daniel Crosland explained:
“Because of the success of the business so far, and the ever growing interest from landlords and agencies we are expanding quickly. We are currently in talks about supplying property management services in the near future. Following that, we will be looking to create a maintenance team as an addition to our organisation. As our client base expands along with our business we will be recruiting apprentices and further staff in the future.”
“We feel that many people have viable business ideas and the relevant skill sets to build a successful business, however the idea can be very daunting and puts most people off. With the support which has been provided, along with our industry knowledge and ideas, the thought of this business became a very real prospect for us, becoming one of the most competitive organisations in the market. We would encourage other people to follow our lead, in accessing the WBSP for support and advice.”
Alongside their website Golden Triangle has a strong presence on both Twitter with @Golden_Triangl and Facebook. Both were able to draw on their design skills for their logo, flyers and advertising. The grant they received through the European Regional Development Fund allowed them to advertise widely throughout the industry and provide them with the opportunity to get adverts in trade journals and industry, increasing their coverage and building long term relationships with local and national businesses.
