A 19.4 acre site at Milton Road, Snapethorpe in Wakefield, has been acquired by Keepmoat Homes.
Acting on behalf of Wakefield Metropolitan District Council, CBRE’s Leeds Residential team brokered the deal to sell the land.
The site is approximately 1.6 miles from Wakefield city centre and is located in close proximity to Junction 40 of the M1 motorway.
Keepmoat Homes is planning to carry out six year programme, which is anticipated to start in 2018 and will deliver a mixed tenure of around 260 two, three and four bedroom homes.
The company has also confirmed the new development will include job creation, while committing to a number of training and apprenticeship opportunities for young people.
Dan Crew, land and partnerships director, Keepmoat Homes (Yorkshire West), said:
“We are delighted CBRE, together with the Council has put their trust in Keepmoat Homes to deliver this major mixed tenure scheme.
“Collectively, our partnership responded to housing needs in Wakefield and looked at how we could support this – from first time buyers, right through to families looking to upsize – as well as the much-needed provision of more affordable homes.
“Once again, we will provide a development tightly tailored to the needs of respective residents; holding various consultation and feedback events, coupled with the provision of training and employment opportunities for local people and the sourcing of local labour.
“It is this people-focused approach that will bring us closer to combatting skills shortages, maximizing build-out rates and relieving the housing crisis.”
Mike Gorman, director of residential at CBRE Leeds, added: “We are delighted to confirm the sale of land at Milton Road. The proposed development by Keepmoat Homes promises to bring an influx of new, modern and affordable housing within the popular and well-established residential area of Snapethorpe.
“These homes will boost the town’s existing amenities and further its appeal within the Wakefield area.”
