Part of the FAIST Group, a London registered worldwide Manufacturing and Technology group, VFS have built a reputation of supplying the highest quality LCV bodywork to major OEM manufacturers and Fleet operators throughout Europe and the UK. As Partners in the truck body group VFS shares designs and manufacture with Scattolini SpA in Italy and on October 2nd 2017 hit the ground running with its 15000m² addition to its portfolio.
In only 9 months and now with a 40 strong head count in South Kirkby, VFS’S Northern Hub is giving its competitors in the north of the UK Manchester a run for their money.
The new facility is going from strength to strength at lightning speed - even with its extension, plant manager Gary Myers said “we are creaking at the seams as we are a Ford One Stop Shop supplier of Luton Vans. The teams now run in a 2 shift patterns to meet customer requirements”
Just for Ford alone VFS produce 26 vehicles per week and currently have the capacity to go to 35 per week led by their production manager, another recent addition – With the right team Gary has been able to focus on a strategic plan to produce more vehicles in a most efficient and timely manner. At only 9 months old, expanding at such a fast pace, the potential to double their weekly production objectives is in clear sight.
The overall aim is to double their weekly production objectives which would include another customer for the other 24 vehicles. Development works have helped towards this target producing for the likes of Mercedes, VW, Peugeot and Citroen to name but a few.
Gary, believes that their success has been the belief in his team and recognising their skills offering further development opportunities. Those being within management, administrative and in the factory itself. Thanks were expressed to local recruitment experts First Choice and West Riding who supported employing a solid start up workforce back at the start of their recruitment journey.
VFS forecasted a 10 million turnover in 3 years and they will have achieved this at the end of year 1.
Their most recent achievement was obtaining the Ford QVM Award as a recognized Qualified Vehicle Modifier - several businesses across the UK have this accreditation but VFS received this in just 6 months and earned an astonishing 97.5%.
Cllr Denise Jeffery, Wakefield Council’s Cabinet member for Economic Growth and Regeneration, said: “It is important to attract high profile businesses like these into the district and, through Wakefield First, we were delighted to be able to secure a new base for VFS at South Kirkby, which is now going from strength to strength. VFS has already provided significant investment into the area and is providing good quality jobs for local residents. It is great news that they are on track to keep expanding, attracting more brands and businesses into the district and creating more jobs in the future.”
