Investing significantly in the local area, WDH recently secured a £15 million government grant through the Homes and Communities Agency to invest in developing 500 Shared Ownership homes between now and 2021.
This is on top of its plans to build and acquire 300 affordable homes every year to 2020 which rises to 600 per year afterwards.
Kevin Dodd, Chief Executive at WDH, said:
“We are very much aware of the housing issues facing the region but are working hard to combat this in any way that we can, working with partners and negotiating with land owners to identify more opportunities. Our developments show a significant investment in the local area, helping people to get on the property ladder”.
According to recent data released by the National Housing Federation, between 2011 and 2015 the average house price within the Wakefield District was £152,738, the most affordable within West Yorkshire; affordable homes delivered through housing association also reached 35,998, the highest number within Yorkshire and the Humber region.
