Wakefield pub The Dam Inn to close for £380K refurbishment
The popular Dam Inn pub in Newmillerdam will be closing next week as a £380,000 refubishment takes place.
Another major change is that the much-loved manager, Josh Ward, is set to leave the Newmillerdam pub after eight years.
Taking to social media, Josh reflected on his eight years at the Dam, describing the pub as “more than just a job” and thanking the customers and staff who have made his time there so special.
He said: “The Dam has been such a huge part of my life. It’s been more than just a job — it’s been a home, a place where I’ve made some amazing friends, shared countless laughs, faced plenty of challenges, and created memories that I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life.
“I’ve had the privilege of meeting so many wonderful people over the years, and I want to say a massive thank you to every single person who has walked through the doors, whether you’ve been a regular for years or just popped in once.
“Your support, conversations, laughs and friendship have meant more to me than you probably realise.”
Josh also paid tribute to the team he has worked alongside during his time at the Dam.
“To the incredible team that I have been so fortunate to have worked alongside and led over the years — thank you,” he said.
“We’ve shared some unforgettable times, and I’ll always be grateful for the memories we’ve made together and the accolades and records we have broken!”
During Josh’s time at the pub, the Dam Inn team has also played an active role in supporting local causes, raising thousands of pounds for charities including Wakefield Hospice, Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice, MY Hospitals Charity and Macmillan.
Reflecting on his departure, Josh admitted leaving would be difficult, but said he was also looking forward to what comes next.
He said: “There are definitely mixed emotions. There’s sadness in closing this chapter, but also excitement about what the future might bring.
“The Dam will always hold a very special place in my heart, and I’ll look back on my time here with nothing but gratitude.
“So, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. Thank you for the memories, the laughs, the support and for making the last eight years so special.”
A new manager will be appointed as part of the changes at the Dam Inn.
The pub will close its doors on September 21 to allow the major refurbishment to take place, with a reopening currently planned for November 3.
