This wonderful family-run shop is bringing delicious, nutritional pet food for your four-legged friends. Founded by a mother and daughter duo, Jess and her mum, the entire operation is inspired and supervised by their chocolate Labrador, Nell.
The story began nearly five years ago when they noticed a gap in the local market for dedicated, high-quality raw pet food. Determined to save local owners from long drives, they opened their doors to provide a species-appropriate diet backed by honest, straightforward guidance.
What makes the shop truly remarkable is that it is powered entirely by just the two of them. In fact, for the first two years, Jess's mum balanced running the shop with a separate full-time job—a massive testament to the grit and passion behind this local business.
Step inside and you'll immediately spot "Nell’s Friends Wall". Jess came up with the idea to snap a Polaroid of every canine customer that walks through the door. Today, it features hundreds of furry faces, showcasing the lives of local pups from their first weeks to old age, and serving as a heartwarming tribute to the tight-knit pet community they've built right here in the Wakefield District.
"We are incredibly proud to be part of Wakefield's independent business scene," say the owners. "The community spirit here is unmatched. For us, it’s about so much more than just selling pet food; it's about building lasting relationships with our neighbours and helping local dogs and cats live their healthiest, happiest lives."
The major development the team has been hinting at is the launch of Four Paws, which is a brilliant new indoor doggy soft play centre.
Running right alongside the raw food store at their new Headway Business Park property, the name holds a very special meaning. It pays tribute to Nova, Poppy, Jack, and Slinky - the family's four other dogs. By pairing the new play centre with Nell's storefront, all five of their beloved pets are officially part of the business!
