Two Wakefield fish and chip shops celebrate national recognition
Two Wakefield fish and chip shops have once again been recognised among the country’s top outlets after successfully retaining a prestigious industry accreditation.
Barracuda Fisheries and Kingfisher Fish & Chip Restaurant have both achieved the National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF) Quality Accreditation.
The accreditation is awarded to fish and chip shops which demonstrate high standards in food quality, hygiene, staff training and preparation.
Both businesses underwent a detailed assessment by an NFFF-approved assessor, with checks covering everything from the presentation and cleanliness of the premises to staff skills, equipment, food safety and the quality of the cooked fish and chips.
The accreditation is valid for one year, meaning businesses must continue to meet the required standards to retain recognition.
Barracuda Fisheries said staff were delighted to have secured the accreditation once again.
A spokesperson said: “Being recognised as one of the UK’s top fish and chip shops by the NFFF is a tremendous honour.
“This award is a credit to our hardworking staff, and I would like to offer my sincere thanks for their continued efforts in maintaining our excellent reputation.
“I would also like to thank all our customers, both new and longstanding, for their support and encouragement.
"Their loyalty motivates us to maintain the high standards that have now been recognised with this accreditation.”
Kingfisher Fish & Chip Restaurant also welcomed the renewed recognition and paid tribute to its staff and customers for helping maintain its standards.
The NFFF, which represents the fish and chip industry across the UK, said its accreditation scheme was designed to raise standards and give customers greater confidence in participating businesses.
NFFF President Andrew Crook said the assessment process was comprehensive and included food safety, preparation and cooking equipment, paperwork and fish traceability.
He said: “Food safety is a key area we examine, alongside other essential aspects of a business—from preparation and cooking equipment to paperwork management and fish traceability.”
He added that both businesses had demonstrated a commitment to sourcing fish and potatoes responsibly.
“Achieving the NFFF Quality Accreditation provides reassurance to customers that they are being served expertly cooked food made with high-quality ingredients,” he said.
