The Prince of Wales Hospice celebrates success of Pontefract charity superstore
The Prince of Wales Hospice is celebrating the success of their new charity superstore, which opened in Pontefract town centre a month ago.
Located in the former Wilko building on Salt Row, the superstore, which opened on May 6, is the largest of the Hospice’s exisiting 10 charity shops.
Now, the charity is celebrating the store’s success, as it proves to be a huge hit amongst shoppers.
Kevin Hogarth, retail operations manager at The Prince of Wales Hospice, said: “We’ve been absolutely delighted with how the new Pontefract superstore has been received in its first month, with income reaching nearly £50,000, which is an incredible start.
“What’s been really special is the reaction from the local community.
"We’re hearing wonderful feedback from customers who are complimenting how modern and welcoming the shop feels.”
Since opening a month ago, the new charity superstore has already served over 6,000 customers.
Furthermore, the charity has seen an increase in donations, with more than 1,300 bags given to help stock the store.
Kevin continued: "As a charity, that support means everything. The income of the first month can fund a patient room for 14 weeks, including health care, catering, and housekeeping.
“It’s fantastic to see the shop so busy and so well supported.
"We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has come through the doors, donated or shopped with us.
"We’d also like to thank all of our amazing volunteers for helping run the superstore. Their support is invaluable, and we always need more people to join the team.”
