Plans to rejuvenate Wakefield restaurant Robatary including 'welcoming space' for families

Popular Wakefield city centre restaurant, Robatary, has been taken over with plans to ‘carefully’ rejuvenate the eatery, including creating a welcoming space for families.

WOWVI Group has announced the acquisition of the well-known restaurant on Northgate.

The group says it has plans to carefully give new energy to the restaurant, with a focus on ‘enhancing the overall experience while preserving the essence that has made Robatary a favourite among local customers’.

Rather than a complete overhaul, the approach will centre on updates to events such as introducing a kids club and refreshing the menu, introducing new dishes and ideas that complement the restaurant’s existing offering.

As part of the transition, popular customer favourites will remain on the menu, ensuring a familiar experience for returning guests.

The focus is on evolving the offering, not changing what people already enjoy.

Alongside menu development, there will be a renewed focus on consistency across both food and service, including strengthening the kitchen team and introducing refined processes designed to enhance the overall dining experience from arrival through to service.

There will also be a continued emphasis on creating a welcoming environment for families in the local area, reflecting WOWVI Group’s roots as a family-run business.

Danny Lacey, CEO of WOWVI, said: “We’re proud to be taking Robatary forward.

"It already has a strong identity and established customer base within Wakefield, and that’s something we’re committed to respecting.

"You’ll still see the dishes people know and enjoy, alongside some new ideas we’re excited to introduce. It’s about building on what’s already there and making the experience even better.

"We’re also putting the right foundations in place behind the scenes to make sure every visit feels as good as it should, from the food to the service.

"As a family business ourselves, it’s important to us that Robatary is somewhere people can come together, whether that’s for a relaxed meal, a celebration, or simply time spent with family.”

The restaurant will remain open as improvements are introduced, with changes being rolled out gradually.
