Logistics company picks contractor for £13m Wakefield cold storage unit
StoreLogs, a temperature-controlled storage and logistics specialist, has appointed Russell WBHO to deliver a £13m cold storage unit in Wakefield.
The design-and-build contract will see the Manchester-based main contractor construct a 46,250 sq ft facility in South Kirkby, adding more than 12,800 pallets to StoreLogs’ existing depot and head office in Langthwaite Business Park.
The single-skin building will be temperature controlled to -24C and feature advanced refrigeration technology exceeding the UK’s best practice benchmark for energy performance. Russell WBHO will also install insulated cladding, mobile racking, and mechanical and electrical services alongside the construction of an external service yard.
Gareth Russell, managing director of Russell WBHO, said: “This contract builds on our extensive experience in the temperature-controlled sector. Following a collaborative design process, our specialist in-house team is delivering a unit that will significantly boost capacity, efficiency and environmental sustainability at StoreLogs’ head office site. The refrigeration system provides industry-leading temperature control and has been proven to reduce carbon emissions.”
Paul Martin, managing director of StoreLogs, added: “Our investment in this new facility reflects the growing demand for cold-chain warehousing and distribution services and will strengthen our ability to serve food manufacturers, retailers and supply-chain operators across the North. The design ensures optimal conditions for our clients’ products and maximises space, enabling us to increase pallet capacity by more than 50 per cent in South Kirkby while minimising our carbon footprint.”
Now on site, the project is scheduled for completion in May 2027.
