Lidl say Dewsbury Road store plan a 'significant investment' in Wakefield
Supermarket giant Lidl say the company's plan to build a new store and mixed used development on land off Dewsbury Road would mean a "significant investment" in Wakefield.
Lidl is also encouraging people to have their say on the plans at www.lidl-wakefield.com/ during an ongoing public consultation before a application is submitted.
Lidl want to build the new store on land opposite the Broadway entrance to Dewsbury Road.
A new junction would be created on Dewsbury Road to access the site.
As well as a new supermarket, Lidl want to build commercial units, an electric vehicle charging hub and "two drive-thru facilities."
A Lidl GB spokesperson said: “The plans for a new mixed-use development on Dewsbury Road represent a significant investment in Wakefield.
"The scheme will deliver a new Lidl store and bakery alongside commercial units, an EV charging hub, and drive-through facilities, creating new local jobs.
"We encourage residents to participate in the public consultation to help shape our proposals before we submit a formal planning application."
Lidl said the scheme would create 40 new full and part time jobs at the Lidl store and between 105 and 435 jobs associated with the proposed drive thru units and employment/commercial units.
Lidl said all comments should be made by September 13.
Lidl currently operates other food stores in Wakefield district – including Ossett, Featherstone and Castleford.
