A new independent brewery and taproom has opened in Wakefield.

Lost Cause Brewing Co, founded by husband-and-wife team Vik Stronge and Colin Stronge, has welcomed customers to its new venue near Wakefield Kirkgate railway station.

Vik said the team wanted the venue to feel firmly rooted in the city.

She said: “We wanted to create something that feels properly rooted in Wakefield."

“This is about more than just beer — it is about building a space where people can come together and feel part of something.”

The brewery has quickly made a name for itself since launching in 2024.

Colin was named Brewer of the Year in 2022, while the business recently picked up the title of Best New Brewery 2025 in awards organised by The Brewers Journal.

Customers can expect a range of beers brewed on site, from crisp lagers and hop-forward pales to seasonal specials, alongside a rotating lineup of street food vendors from across the North.

The venue has been designed as a relaxed, family-and dog-friendly space focused on community.

Colin said independent venues were an important part of Wakefield’s growing food and drink scene.

He said: “Wakefield deserves more independent venues like this – places that are accessible, inclusive and focused on quality.

“We’re proud to be part of that and excited to welcome people in.”

The taproom is open Thursdays and Fridays from 4pm to 9pm, Saturdays from 12pm to 9pm and Sundays from 12pm to 5pm.
