Featherstone's Bradley Arms celebrates double CAMRA award success
A community pub in North Featherstone has received a double celebration after being presented with two Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) awards at a special ceremony.
The Bradley Arms hosted a well-attended presentation where landlady Alison Windmill accepted the Wakefield CAMRA Tetley Dave Award on behalf of her late partner, Paul Windmill, alongside the venue being named Spring Pub of the Season.
It the first time in Wakefield CAMRA’s history that the Tetley Dave Award has been presented posthumously.
The award was presented by Featherstone-born writer and broadcaster Ian Clayton, who paid tribute to Mr Windmill’s contribution to the local pub scene.
He said: “You’ve picked a good man for this award this year. I knew Paul as a welder, a rugby team mate, a brewer, a landlord and a dear friend and he was top class at all of those things.”
He also praised Alison’s role in continuing the pub’s operation following Mr Windmill’s death, adding: “She has been the stalwart of stalwarts, she was his partner in life as well as in business.”
Wakefield CAMRA chair Mark Goodair said the Tetley Dave Award is given annually to individuals who have gone “above and beyond” in promoting real ale over a long period, and is named in memory of former Castleford landlord Dave Parker.
Alison said: “Paul would have been so proud of this.”
The Bradley Arms, on Willow Lane East, is a historic multi-room pub with links to local industrial and political history, including the Featherstone Massacre and early labour movement speeches in the late 19th century.
Spring Pub of the Season award is voted for by CAMRA members across the Wakefield and district branch.
The seasonal award forms part of CAMRA’s wider recognition scheme, with winning pubs automatically included in consideration for the annual Pub of the Year and featuring in the Good Beer Guide.
Earlier this year Luis Bar at Fernandes was named Pub of the Year 2025 for the Wakefield district.
The Campaign for Real Ale, founded in 1971, promotes traditional cask ale and pub culture across the UK and has a strong membership base in Wakefield and the wider region.
