Family-run outdoor retailer unveils Ossett showroom expansion which makes it largest in the North
Outdoor World Direct, a family-run camping equipment and outdoor retailer, has opened its brand new expanded showroom.
The company’s managing director, David Scotland, decided to expand the retail space from 8,000 to 15,000 square feet after the business had its most successful year yet in 2025.
The renovation and expansion of its Ossett showroom, which has been taking place over the past few months, now means that Outdoor World Direct boasts the largest independent camping showroom in the North – enabling it to display even more tents, awnings and other camping equipment.
The move also aims to improve operational efficiency, as the warehouse and showroom are now separate.
This means that operational duties, such as fulfilling online orders, will no longer disrupt customers.
Managing director, David Scotland, said: “Although the majority of people shop online, having a showroom where people can view products in-person is actually becoming a USP in its own right.
"Our online store performs incredibly well and enables us to have a nationwide customer base, but giving people the opportunity to view a family tent before purchasing means they are more likely to find the right one for their needs.
"Large family tents and awnings are an investment, so many people still want to see, touch and experience the products while also having a knowledgeable person on-hand to ask questions.”
Outdoor World Direct was founded almost 17 years ago, in 1999, by David’s father, Eric Scotland, who is still involved in the business.
The Outdoor World Direct Ossett showroom, located on Roundwood Industrial Estate, is open to the public from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, and 10am to 4pm on weekends.
