Castleford building society collecting items for local charity

04 Aug 2025

Colleagues at Castleford’s branch of Yorkshire Building Society are collecting products for both parents and young children, including babies aged 0 – 5 years to support local charity, Tiny Hands Baby Bank.
Items accepted include baby wipes, nappies, bath and body wash, toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner, hairbrushes and bobbles, and roll on deodorants.
The Society’s branch in Castleford on Carlton Street, has become an official donation station for Tiny Hands Baby Bank.

The items collected will be very much appreciated and will be split between the charity’s “bags of hope”, given to women in hostels and refuge who have had to flee their homes, often without any of their own possessions; and their sleep safe campaign, to ensure that children and families across Yorkshire do not sleep in poverty.

The not-for-profit charity is based in West Yorkshire, led by founder Jane Robinson and a whole host of volunteers from the local community.

Jane started Tiny Hands in 2017 when, as a foster carer, she witnessed first hand that some families, having met almost all criteria but falling shy of the final details, were unable to be reunited with their children.

Jane made it her mission to help these families, by providing items such as a new cot, a car seat to bring their children home in or an essentials kit of items such as blankets, nappies and baby wipes. Knowing there was more she could do, she set up Tiny Hands Baby Bank with the support of local volunteers and sponsors, and is now able to support around 2,000 families each year through various initiatives.

Customer consultant, Michelle Hague at the Castleford branch of Yorkshire Building Society, said: “We are proud to be able to support Tiny Hands Baby Bank in our community in Castleford and we really want to help make a difference to those that are in need with our collection station.

“Items can be dropped off at the Castleford branch until 30 September 2025, and we are grateful for any donations, large or small.”

Jane Robinson, charity founder and lead trustee of Tiny Hands Baby Bank, said: “We are really grateful that Yorkshire Building Society in Castleford are collecting these much-needed items for us that will help us continue to provide our services.”

The collection will be running until September 30 and can be dropped into the branch between 9am and 4.30pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday or 9.30am – 4.30pm on a Wednesday.
