Amazon helps flood-hit Wakefield school library with books donation

30 Mar 2026

Sandal Magna Community Academy has received a donation of 300 books from Amazon in Wakefield following recent flood damage to the school library.

The books, which were selected with the aim of boosting diversity in reading content, were delivered by volunteers from Amazon.

The donation coincided with World Book Day, a national effort to inspire reading for fun among primary-age children in schools across the country.

Jake Donson, a volunteer from Amazon in Wakefield, said: “It was wonderful to see the enthusiasm in the classroom when we delivered stories featuring characters who reflected the experiences of the pupils.

"The boys and girls asked great questions and showed so much excitement.

"Our visit reminded us all why representation in literature matters so much.”

Craig Elliott, headteacher of Sandal Magna Community Academy, added: “Since our library flooded because of the roof damage, we’ve been so appreciative of any efforts to help restore it – especially with such a thoughtful donation as this one.

"The volunteers from Amazon brought great energy into the room with this book delivery.”
