Top 100 Companies In Wakefield To Be Announced At Exclusive Launch

The Top 100 companies in the district are set to be revealed in May 2024 showcasing the Wakefield District’s strong business community and celebrating successful businesses in the district.

The Wakefield Top 100 is a joint project between Wakefield First as part of Wakefield Council, University of Huddersfield, and the 3M Buckley Innovation Centre (3M BIC). The venture will help shine a light on the fantastic businesses of Wakefield. Promoting the district as a place to do business with unrivalled investment and growth opportunities.

The Wakefield Top 100 list is determined by a set of consistent metrics, using a combination of turnover, profit, employee numbers and growth, all obtained from published company accounts of locally registered firms from the Bureau Van Dijk – FAME database.

The official launch event for the Wakefield Top 100 businesses in the district will take place on Wednesday 8 May 2024 for businesses who are on the official list in attendance. The event will be hosted by partner organisations at the fantastic Tileyard North, a state-of-the-art creative industries hub, based at Rutland Mills Wakefield.

 

Cllr Michael Graham, Wakefield Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Growth and Regeneration, said:

“The Wakefield Top 100 initiative will help showcase and celebrate the districts rich and diverse business community who are leading the way.

“The launch event will create a lasting legacy which we hope will be celebrated for years to come and will put Wakefield on the map as the place for business, investment and growth”.

Professor Tim Thornton, Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Huddersfield, said:

"Following on from the success of the Kirklees Top 100 launched four years ago, the Wakefield edition will reinforce our efforts to put local companies in the spotlight and strengthen bonds within the business community.

“The aim of the initiative is to encourage growth and collaboration, drive investment into the region, create jobs and opportunities, as well as inspire and retain local talent.”

 

The event and official brochure, which will be available online on Wakefield Top 100 (wakefieldfirst.com) from 09/05/24.

The exclusive, invitation-only event will take place on 8 May 2024, where the official top 100 businesses in Wakefield will be announced.

It’s an exciting time for the Economic Growth team at Wakefield Council who have recently launched the new Wakefield District Economic Wellbeing Strategy 2024-2029. The strategy focuses on improving the wellbeing of our people and communities across the district whilst nurturing a just economy by building on what works well.
