The Car People makes £7.2m investment in Wakefield branch

The Car People has invested £7.2m in significantly expanding its Wakefield branch.
With an additional four acres square footage, the showroom, based at Calder Island, now features over 1,000 display cars, increased internal consultation space and a new children’s play area.

Additional benefits include a new handover lounge, site-wide and free WI-FI, and a fleet of golf buggies for transporting customers around the larger site.

Jonathan Allbones, sales director at The Car People’s four branches, said: “Our business has continued to grow and evolve since we launched in Wakefield 16 years ago.

“We were literally outgrowing the Wakefield site, and the investment was required, not only to increase the choice available to customers, but also to ensure we had the resources to maintain our high standards of car preparation and customer service.

“Therefore, we decided to invest £4.2m into showroom improvements and £3m into additional stock. The way people shop for cars has also changed. Our after sales offering represents a large and growing element of our business.

“In fact, uptake on our after sales products, which include car servicing and MOTs exclusively for customers, has grown 36% year-on-year since we introduced it. We simply needed more space to satisfy the customer demand and we’re delighted with the result”.

Wakefield was The Car People’s first site and remains its head office. It also has showrooms in Sheffield, Manchester and, soon to be launched, Warrington.
