Xamax Founder Takes Top Spot As One Of Britain's Greats
10 September 2014
Graham Thompson, founder and managing director of Xamax, the branded clothing and sportswear specialists based in Wakefield, has been nominated for the Great British Entrepreneur Awards; a national celebration of business success and enterprising spirit.
Calling on more than 25 years of experience, Graham explained how despite humble beginnings; selling branded flat caps from a friends back bedroom, he now has a team of 50 people. Also, thanks to recent RGF investment of £90,000, he will have two manufacturing outlets under the Xamax brand by the end of the year.
Working with more than 15,000 customers and doubling turnover to almost £4m in the last twelve months the business continues to go from strength-to-strength offering an innovative range of products including part sponsorship deals on football shirts and rugby league football kits.
“It goes without saying that I was more than a little surprised to make the list of nominees for the Great British Entrepreneur Awards. It hasn’t been easy over the past 25 years but we have learnt some valuable lessons and are still around to tell the tale.
“I am incredibly excited to be named as one of the nominees and hope that I can do my team proud, I will certainly be flying the flag for Yorkshire based business.”
The Great British Entrepreneur Awards Founder, Simon Burton comments:
“The Great British Entrepreneur Awards are all about celebrating inspiring entrepreneurs. We believe that entrepreneurs are the engine room of the economy, the drivers of national wealth. More importantly we believe that entrepreneurs forge innovation, disrupt tired markets, and foster positive change.
“The entries to the Great British Entrepreneur Awards this year are inspiring and humbling. We passionately promote the idea that entrepreneurs’ stories are as telling as their balance sheets and that entrepreneurs should be acknowledged and recognised.
“The task for the judges this year will be incredibly hard. Entrepreneurship is alive, thriving and blossoming in the UK.”
The shortlist for the Great British Entrepreneur Awards will take place following the VIP Nominees Dinner on 18 September in London. A full shortlist will be available following this event prior to the Awards Ceremony on the 19 November.
