First Flair4Retail Christmas Jobs Fair a huge success

09 September 2016

The Flair4Retail Christmas Jobs Fairs is off to the perfect start, with more than 350 jobseekers attending the first of three events.

Last Friday’s event, held in The Ridings Shopping Centre, offered more than 400 vacancies from employers including Marks and Spencer, TK Maxx, Primark, Ann Summer, Hays Travel, Aldi, Gap Personnel, Subway, Union Insurance, and YH Training Services.

Along with applying for vacancies, jobseekers received information on how to apply for jobs online and how to register for Flair4Retail – Wakefield’s dedicated retail recruitment website. Jobcentre Plus advisers also provided interview tips and CV advice.

The second Flair4Retail Christmas Jobs Fair will be held on Monday 19 September at Trinity Walk from 10am to 5pm, and due to their popularity a third date has been added - Snozone at Xscape, Castleford, on Thursday 6 October from 10am to 4pm.

Councillor David Jones, Wakefield Council’s deputy portfolio holder for economic growth and skills, and Joy Glarvey, Customer Service Operations Manager, Jobcentre Plus opened the event.

Cllr Jones said: “The first Flair4Retail Christmas Jobs Fair was a huge success, and we are expecting even more attendees at the second event as the news spreads and students return to the city centre.

Joy Glarvey said “This is a great example of how we can work together with local businesses to fill their vacancies and give more local people access to employment opportunities. I encourage local businesses with job opportunities to take part in the next events and have their vacancies filled with skilled people from the local community”

The job fairs are a great partnership between the Council, Jobcentre Plus, Trinity Walk, The Ridings Shopping Centre, Xscape and the Wakefield City Centre Partnership. There are hundreds of jobs available and we look forward to filling them.”

Eileen Holroyd, The Ridings Shopping Centre Manager, said: “The jobs fairs are proving successful for a second year running, and hosting them around the city centre makes them really accessible for jobs seekers and streamlines the recruitment process for our stores too.”
