Third Apprentice Signals Strong Year Ahead for Wakefield Clothes Supplier
28 January 2016
Xamax, the work wear and sports clothing specialist, has expanded its skilled workforce with the addition of a new apprentice.
Dominic Jones, aged 20 from Hall Green, has been offered a Trade Counter Sales Apprenticeship which will see him complete a one-year training programme at the business.
Having been unemployed for three months prior to being recruited at Xamax, Dominic was keen to develop his skills within a customer service or administrative role and saw the position at Xamax as the ideal opportunity.
“Whilst I was studying at school, I worked behind a bar and really enjoyed interacting with customers. When I saw the apprentice role being offered at Xamax, I was really keen to find out more and see if I could develop my customer service skills.
“Working alongside the team I have already learnt a huge amount. I understand I still have a long way to go but I am really looking forward to building my knowledge, learning more about Xamax and pursuing a career within manufacturing and retail.”
During his apprenticeship Dominic will focus on day-to-day trade counter activity, serving customers, providing customer service by assisting with queries and giving advice, taking delivery of goods, recording stock levels and reporting sales to the wider team.
Dominic is the third apprentice to join Xamax since the company began a recruitment drive to set the foundations for future growth and pass on the skills that are required when working in a busy manufacturing and retail outlet.
Graham Thompson, Managing Director of Xamax, comments:
“We recognised some years ago that the manufacturing industry is being held back by a shortage of skills and decided to do something about it. We began a campaign to attract those leaving secondary school to the business and by putting in place a series of robust apprenticeship schemes, we have been able to attract younger talent to the company.
“Our apprentices are the life blood of Xamax, giving us the ability to train young people in the skills they need to meet with the demands and changes at the business. We are extremely pleased to welcome Dominic to Xamax, we’re looking forward to seeing him become an integral part of our team.”
