Wonder of Wakefield Launches with Food Trail

22 October 2015

The Wonder of Wakefield (WoW), the celebration of all things wonderful in Wakefield this Christmas held its launch at the Hepworth Art Gallery last Thursday, 16 October, with an exciting and exceedingly tasty food trail.

Launching the WoW food trail alongside the launch of October’s TopicUK, The Hepworth provided a perfect location for guests to taste some of the best that Wakefield has to offer, network, take a gallery tour and find out more about the buzz being created in Wakefield this Christmas.

With more than 10 delicious treats from speciality beer, cocktails and milkshakes to fine cheese, chocolate and pulled pork sandwiches the event offered all those who attended an excellent opportunity to sample a selection of the many local offers that will be available this Christmas.

The WoW brand, a Wakefield City Centre Partnership (WCCP) initiative, covers everything from shopping and dining, to events, arts and leisure. This new brand aims to get Wakefield businesses and residents  informed and excited about everything happening in Wakefield this Christmas. Bringing with it increased footfall and spending into the City Centre during the festive period.

Sara Hassan, Co-Chair of the Wakefield City Centre Partnership said:

“We’re hoping to bring the people of Wakefield something special this Christmas, including more family-friendly events, loads of great special offers and some brand new and exciting products. We want to put Wakefield back on the map as a Christmas destination and give people more reasons to enjoy the wonderful shops, restaurants, bars and arts venues it has to offer.

“Great things are happening and it is much easier and more effective to showcase all the great things rather than promoting them in isolation.”

Using the Twitter hashtag #WoW, businesses and residents can shout about all the great events from a festive market, the Ridings Centre and Trinity Walk light switch-on events as well as Christmas themed events at the Hepworth and the Cathedral.

With 25,000 copies of the WoW Christmas Guide being distributed across the city, everyone can stay informed about all the events and Christmas plans as well as being able to take part in over 20 exclusive offers across shops, bars, restaurants and arts venues. The guide can be picked up at venues across the city centre and will be stocked at Tourist Information Points, The Ridings Centre, Trinity Walk, Unity Works and many bars, restaurants and public buildings.

Businesses that took part in the food trail include;

The Six Chimneys, Iris, Hogarth’s, Feathers Confectionary, The Grill Pit, The Treehouse, Deli Central, Create Café, Esquires Coffee House, Grind, and Created in Yorkshire.
