Collaboration Removes Risk for Pedestrians
23 September 2015
Featherstone based Route One Highways rail division partners with Story Contracting to develop a safe crossing for pedestrians at high-risk level crossing on behalf of Network Rail.
Identified as one of the top ten ranked high-risk crossings in the North of England the crossing at Pleasington Golf Course in Blackburn required an innovative solution to provide a safe and alternative way of crossing the railway line.
Closing the existing level crossing Story replaced it with an overbridge solution – a first of its kind in the UK. Route One complemented the special construction methodology by installing the Stirling Lloyd Safetrack HW, a combined waterproofing and anti-slip surface, which saw the bridge installed and operational within two consecutive seven-hour windows.
Ashleigh Wilson, sales manager at Route One Highways rail division says:
“We are very proud to have collaborated on such a project that went on to win the prestigious Network Rail Partnership Award for Best Project.
Through innovative working no train delays or disruption to the rail timetable were experienced and Network Rail now have the opportunity to replicate this design solution in other regions.”
