Wakefield Export Champions collaborate with local school

Export Champions m2r Education and Coeur de Xocolat recently joined forces to offer an innovative chocolate based curriculum to Yr9 pupils at St Thomas a Becket Catholic Secondary School in Wakefield.

Munir Mamujee, MD of m2r Education and David Greenwood Haigh, owner of Coeur de Xocolat were both awarded the accolade of Export Champion by The Department for International Trade (DIT) and The Northern Powerhouse (NPH) and have already worked on a serious of collaborative projects, including the high profile ‘More Than An Airport’ campaign in conjunction with Manchester Airport.

Munir commented, ‘my eldest daughter attends St Thomas a Becket and I wanted to give something back to the school and David’s excellent chocolate based sessions seemed perfect. I am very grateful to Cathy Baxendale for her vision and passion as without her consent, this project would not have been possible.’

David spent a full week with the Yr9 students and his sessions were met with huge enthusiasm. The children learnt not just how to make chocolate but also the science, history and geography behind the cocoa bean. David mentioned, ‘The strength of being an Export Champion is clearly the networks and contacts we meet. Without this my enjoyable week teaching the Yr9 students of St Thomas a Becket Catholic school would not have been possible’.

Cathy added, ‘Our pupils have absolutely loved this week and learned so much – not least of which that something as seemingly simple and everyday as chocolate touches on subjects across the school curriculum, from History and Geography to Science, Art and Design and of course, Food”

Both David and Munir hope that this isn’t the first chocolate based collaboration they do in Wakefield!
