Creating communities - An inspiring region to live in. MIPIM 2019

Tom Stannard, Corporate Director for Regeneration and Economic Growth will be participating on the LCR Panel ‘Creating Communities’ event at MIPIM Cannes on the 14th March.

The MIPIM conference is the world's premier real estate event, held each year in Cannes. It gathers the most influential international property players from the office, residential, retail, healthcare, sport, logistics and industrial sectors.

Tom Stannard is a regeneration, economic development and skills specialist.  He joined Wakefield Council as Corporate Director, Regeneration and Economic Growth in 2018.

Tom was previously Director of Economy and Skills at Oldham Council in Greater Manchester, one of the ten GM local authorities.  Tom led a wide range of the Council’s economic regeneration programmes and services, working across Greater Manchester, and was heavily involved in the devolution/city deal agenda.

In 2011 he was voted "one to watch" in the Local Government Chronicle's 50 most influential UK Local Government figures, securing 2011 "Council of the Year" rating for Blackburn through low council tax and consistent improvement in public satisfaction.

Tom is a Member of the UK Institute of Economic Development (MIED), a Board Director and Trustee of the Manchester-based Centre for Local Economic Strategies (CLES), and in 2016 was appointed deputy national spokesperson on Economic Growth and Housing for SOLACE (Society of Local Authority Chief Executives).

Chaired by Damian Wild, Editor in Chief, EG, the “LCR Creating Communities” discussion session will be based around the topic of “Community” as integral to place making in order to inspire and promote urban design, creative use of space and cultural and social identities.

Join us to explore how Leeds City Region has defined new communities that inspire a better quality of life and a wealth of opportunity for its residents, as well as becoming a destination for young, diverse and inspirational people allowing businesses to thrive.
