Xamax Founder Named One of Britain’s Greats

Graham Thompson, founder and managing director of Xamax, the personalised clothing and sportswear specialist based in Wakefield, is celebrating after fending off hundreds of nominees to be shortlisted as a finalist in the Great British Entrepreneur Awards 2014.

Featuring in the Manufacturing Entrepreneur of the Year category, Graham is one of just 10 nominees to make it through to the second stage of the awards judging process, which will celebrate business success and enterprising spirit.

The Yorkshire based business man has been recognised for his 25 years in the manufacturing industry and ongoing success as an employer of 50 people, despite humble beginnings selling branded flat caps from a friend’s back bedroom.

With a customer supply list of more than £15,000, Graham has focused his efforts on innovation and expansion helping to double turnover to almost £4m in the last twelve months. In addition, thanks to recent RGF investment of £90,000, Graham will have two manufacturing outlets under the Xamax brand by 2015.

Graham comments:

“I have to admit that I was overwhelmed when I found out that I had made it through to the second stage of the Great British Entrepreneur Awards. When I founded Xamax all those years ago, I never imagined that over two decades later I would be in the running to be named the Manufacturing Entrepreneur of the Year at such a prestigious event.

“As a Yorkshire man who champions the district as the place to do business, I am incredibly excited to be named as one of the finalists and hope to bring the title home for both Xamax and other businesses that are deserving of recognition in the area.”

Simon Burton, founder of the Great British Entrepreneur Awards, said:

The entries we have received for the Great British Entrepreneur Awards can only be described as awe inspiring. The quality has been outstanding. The judges have had the extremely difficult task of whittling the great and good of the entrepreneurial community down to the very best and we are delighted by the companies that have made the shortlist.

“The Awards Ceremony itself in November will be a night to remember, with VIPs from the worlds of business and entrepreneurship gathering to celebrate entrepreneurial spirit in the UK.”

The winner will be announced at the Great British Entrepreneur Awards Ceremony taking place on the 19th November in London.
