Wakefield District a Tale of Contrasts
Thu 22 Sep 2016
The Community Foundation for Wakefield are holding a networking luncheon at the end of September to explain our plans for re-invigorating the Community Foundation and its impact on communities throughout Wakefield District.
The event is being held at The Kashmiri Aroma (opening exclusively for us) 2 Herriot Way, Wakefield WF1 2UJ on 30 September 2016 from 12 noon - 2 pm We aim to bring together key businesses and influencers in the Wakefield District to determine perceptions of the priority needs of the District and how these can be addressed.
Whilst Business is doing extremely well in Wakefield, continuing prosperity and growth depends on having a vibrant community with the relevant skills and aspirations. Unfortunately, there are still significant areas of deprivation within the District leading to low achievement and poor expectations. We believe it is very important that these contrasting elements are addressed by demonstrating how we can all work together to make a significant difference in our Local Community.
The Community Foundation for Wakefield already has, money invested, given by generous donors for the sole use of the Wakefield Community. The interest on this money has been distributed to local causes or reinvested. However low interest rates and changes within Government have made it a priority to create new funds which we can then distribute in grants to local community groups.
Recently grants have been awarded locally on behalf of the National Comic Relief Fund and the Wakefield charity WACCL who asked the Community Foundation to specifically award grants from their fund to disadvantaged young people in Wakefield District. We would like businesses to share with us your ideas about how we can set up and grow new named funds and would encourage you to join us for this special event. Keynote Speakers will include-
Sir Rodney Walker- President of the Community Foundation for Wakefield District
Mike Scott - UK Community Foundations
Adam Redfern – SESKU Academy – A “Comic Relief “grant beneficiary
