Wakefield Bondholder first Friday close the year at Farmer Copley’s
Wed 07 Dec 2016
The morning event hosted by the Bondholders and Wakefield First was like being in our own little world at the beautiful Farmer Copley’s. Venturing into the newly built and furnished event space on top of the famous MOO Café (BEAST by Night)!
We were well and truly spoilt by the fabulous venue and breakfast provided – Someone said best bacon sandwiches EVER! The atmosphere was fantastic and great networking opportunities were made with over 70 delegates attending.
The event kicked off with Adrian Spawforth, Chair of Wakefield Bondholders to introduce Heather Copley, who gave us all an insight into the beginnings of the business and what’s coming up and introducing us to the new Beast Café and plans for the future starting with the new conference and events space where we were hosted. Watch this space!
It was then over to Kelly, who gave us an update on Bondholders, new members and what’s coming up! Bondholders now have a fantastic 121 members and counting. Kelly Highlighted some dates for the diary… Cognitiv Christmas Quiz, 12th December, Bondholders AGM on the 18th January and First Friday on 3rd February , which will host a special speaker from the BBC here to talk to businesses about the future of tech and how the BCC want to get more involved with northern businesses. This is set to be another fantastic event!
Sarah Pearson, Service Director for Wakefield Councils economic development team then presented an economic update of the Wakefield district here are some of the Key Points highlighted on the day; ( SEE IN STATS BELOW)
Things are looking good for Wakefield!
We then heard from our key speaker, Jacob Hill who gave us a very inspirational, humorous and thought provoking speech on his own story. After starting off as a budding entrepreneur setting up the Lazy Camper and securing money from Richard Branson Then things went wrong. Jacob got caught and ended up facing a 28 Month prison sentence. From this he saw the potential to support people with a criminal record into employment. After being released from prison Jacob then set out to start up another business venture Offploy, helping those who have faced prison sentences into employment again.
First Fridays will continue to be delivered from February 2017. Stay tuned and see what comes up over the next year.
