The North East and Yorkshire finalists of the 2018 EY Entrepreneur of the Year North have been revealed.
Seven businesses from across the two regions have made the shortlist, which celebrates innovation in the North across a range of sectors such as retail, technology, education, marketing, energy and financial services.
The 2 finalists from the Wakefield district are;
Tom Marley, chief executive of The Car Buying Group, based in Wakefield
Karen Betts, managing director of Nouveau Beauty Group, based in Pontefract
Tom spoke to Wakefield First: "I'm delighted to be recognised by EY and shortlisted for the Scale Up Entrepreneur of the year. This is as much about me as it is the team driving the growth behind me - Wakefield and the Yorkshire area has a wealth of talent in it and we remain dedicated and focused to continue to grow exponentially over the coming years."

"This year’s programme is recognising and connecting another 20 Northern businesses, which create jobs and generate wealth, contributing to the continued growth of the North’s economy."
The finalists, will convene at an awards ceremony in Manchester in June, where an independent panel of judges will select winners in each category. Similar events will also be held in Scotland, the Midlands and London.
The North judging panel will be chaired by Peel Ports Group chief executive Mark Whitworth and will include Tayyab Akhlaq, director of Public Desire, Sarah Louise Fairburn, brand and sales director at L J Fairburn & Son, Alison Fielding, venture partner at IP Group, Matthew Hirst, chief executive of Utiligroup, Catherine Richards, partner at Inflexion Private Equity and Glenn Timms, chief executive of IESA.
Regional winners will progress to the UK final, which will be held in London in November, to compete for EY UK Entrepreneur of the Year. Whoever clinches the title will then take part in the EY Entrepreneur of the Year Forum in summer 2019.
