Shortlist Success for the Ridings
Fri 27 Mar 2015
The Ridings Shopping Centre based in Wakefield has been shortlisted for a BCSC Opal Award for its Grand Boot Bazaar initiative. The Opal Awards are the only UK award programme to recognise and reward commercialisation within shopping centres.
Shortlisted in the Commercial Events category, The Ridings has been acknowledged for innovation and excellence in delivery of its unique campaign, which offers shoppers an undercover car boot sale staged on a Sunday.
First implemented in 2014 to enhance the customer experience, the Grand Boot Bazaar meets the growing demand for a car boot sale in the city of Wakefield. The successful initiative has also helped to attract visitors from across and outside of the city and also increased the centre’s footfall during Sundays.
Eileen Holroyd, Centre Manager, comments:
“We’re really excited to have been shortlisted for a prestigious Opal Award. Our Grand Boot Bazaar campaign has helped to fill a gap in the market and has also been of great benefit to local people, which was reflected in the positive feedback we received from the event.
“We have been able to give visitors a new and exciting reason to visit, helped to increase footfall whilst also reinforcing the values of the centre – its community feel and the family-friendly shopping experience. The fact that we are now being acknowledged for our innovative thinking and showcased as an example of best practice is great news.”
The winners of the Opal Awards will be revealed on the 22nd April at a Presentation Breakfast in London.
Situated over three levels, The Ridings Shopping Centre houses a mixture of stores and restaurants including BHS, Primark, Marks & Spencer alongside quality independents such as Created in Yorkshire, Feather’s Confectionery, Dickey Bow Boutique and Artworld. The Ridings Shopping Centre is part of the Moorfield Group.
