NYSE-listed company buys label manufacturer

AJS Labels, a manufacturer and supplier of self-adhesive labels and stickers, has been acquired by New York Stock Exchange-listed Multi Packaging Solutions (MPS).

Established more than 40 years ago, AJS specialises in the production and supply of self-adhesive labels for a variety of markets including confectionary, health & beauty and personal care products. The business supplies a range of customers including The Body Shop, Nestle, Morrisons, Tesco, Nature's Way Foods and Twentieth Century Fox.

AJS business operates from bases in Littlehampton, Sussex and Featherstone, West Yorkshire and employs about 80 workers.

Andrew and Jayne Scrimgeour, owners and founders, said:

"We have been involved with the business for over seven years and are very proud of what has been achieved. Over that period, the business has grown significantly. We have built a strong reputation for innovation and service and we now produce an extensive range of labels for some of Europe’s best known brands.

"The deal will allow the company to realise its ambitious plans to grow and develop as part of a business with a global footprint and a broader range of capabilities."

Marc Shore, chief executive of MPS, added: "The acquisition of AJS is consistent with our strategy to develop a more substantial position in their end markets. It will help us grow the business organically and be part of our expanding global capability in the label space."

MPS has its North American head office in New York and its European headquarters in Nottingham.
