New course is backed by local creative industries

An exciting new course has received the seal of approval from the region’s digital and creative industries. The Level 3 Creative and Digital Industries diploma, to be delivered by Wakefield College, will prepare school leavers for a career in the creative, digital and IT (CDIT) sectors.

The course has been developed in conjunction with Wakefield based Cognitiv, a not-for-profit industry group created to put the spotlight on the region’s creative, digital and IT sectors. Cognitiv chair, Dan Conboy said:

“The new course will provide students with a valuable insight into these sectors as it has been developed in conjunction with employers in the District. The partnership between Wakefield College and Cognitiv will provide students with excellent opportunities to benefit from an up-to-date curriculum in a fast-changing sector, as well as direct links with employers to enhance their employability.”

Wakefield College’s Assistant Principal, Ian Wainwright, said:

“We are delighted to be launching this exciting course for the young people in the District. The College is working closely with local employers to ensure our courses prepare students for successful careers in a range of different sectors. The diploma further enhances our relationship with the region’s creative industries and will ultimately benefit learners and the local economy.”

The course will run from September 2015, and is now open to applications from school-leavers who will achieve at least 5 GCSEs grade A*- C including English Language and Maths. Tutors will cover a host of exciting topics including graphic design, web development, digital marketing and business studies.
