Fri 17 Oct 2014
Harvard Engineering, world leader in the design, development and manufacture of energy saving lighting products, was delighted to receive a visit from Simon Hughes, Minister of State for Justice and Civil Liberties, on Thursday 16th October.
Mr. Hughes who met with the Harvard senior management team took a tour of the manufacturing facility to greet recent recruits and to see first hand how Government funding benefits UK manufacturing and engineering.
Harvard is expanding the research and development department, as well as its manufacturing facility after being awarded £2.7million from the Government’s Regional Growth Fund (RGF). The funding, along with additional investment from Harvard, will create 306 new jobs in Wakefield over a four year period (starting from October 2013) and safeguard a further 50 jobs.
John McDonnell, managing director of Harvard said,
“We were delighted to be able to show the Minister how much the RGF funding has assisted with the development our business, also to be able to explain how important government funding is to a growing manufacturing company like ours.”
Martin Baum finance director at Harvard added,
“The company is eager to grow its presence in Wakefield and to remain at the forefront of the lighting industry. The support from the RGF is allowing us to do both.”
Mr. Hughes commented,
“The Regional Growth Fund is a helping hand from Government to create thousands of jobs that boost the private sector and rebalance the economy. I am thrilled to see that the people of Wakefield are to benefit. Companies like Harvard and the people who work there are helping us to build a stronger economy and a fairer society for this generation and the next. Through the RGF companies commit to creating jobs and investing in their regional economy in return for Government funding. “
