500,000 sq ft industrial scheme plans in

Plans have been lodged for a job-creating industrial development in West Yorkshire that would provide more than 500,000 sq ft of warehousing and distribution space along the M62 corridor.

Commercial Development Projects, supported by Turley, has submitted an application to Wakefield Council for an employment development on an agricultural site at Havertop Lane in Normanton.

The site is located close to Junction 31 of the M62 and a number of existing employment developments, including Normanton Industrial Estate, Trident Park and Link 62.

Outline planning permission is sought for a development of about 529,500 sq ft of B2 (general industrial) and B8 (storage or distribution).

A total of 11 units would be developed ranging in size from 20,000 sq ft up to 60,000 sq ft. The proposal also includes 525 car parking spaces.

The scheme has the potential to create hundreds of full time equivalent jobs, as well as roles during construction.

A planning statement submitted as part of the application said: "The proposed development will fully support the delivery of the relevant strategic objectives of the Core Strategy by building on its strengths and supporting the growth of a dynamic local economy and provide much needed warehousing and distribution uses along the M62 corridor, which is one of the main locations within the Leeds City Region for wholesale and freight distribution.

"It will also make provision for existing firms to expand or relocate which is important for providing new employment opportunities and to ensure that existing businesses can prosper and grow, particularly building on those sectors where the district enjoys a competitive advantage."

If outline planning permission is granted, a reserved matters application would then be submitted for the first two units, access and shared infrastructure.
